Top Three – Week of 07/06/09

The best part of the summer in NYC is all the free events that occur in all the neighborhoods. From outdoor movies, to outdoor concerts, to Street Fairs.
So here are my top three in regards to free events of the summer:
1. Movie Night in Astoria – For the next 2 months, Astoria Park will be hosting a Movie every Monday. They have a good selection too. So bring a lawn chair or a blanket, some snacks, and friends and relax to a movie with the sunsetting in the background. Myself, I would like to check out Wall-E.
2. Shakespeare in the Park – I’ve seen three Shakespeare plays in Central Park in the last 4 years (Hamlet, Macbeth, and A Midnight Summers Dream) and each time I’ve had a blast. I will be waiting in line 6am in the morning this Sunday to get tickets for 12fth night. It’s the last night to catch it. I’m excited!
3. Free Concerts – I have yet to catch one of these. I have been to the Siren Festival back in 2007 but I would like to either check out one of the River to River shows or South Street Seaport Events. Perhaps a show at Prospect Park or the Pool Parties, now hosted at the Waterway in Williamsburg.
Anyway, if you live in NYC, remember to take advantage of all the free events that occur around the city this summer before it’s too late and it’s Winter again.
